Foxvideo Productions

Having spent the best part of 40 years looking through a viewfinder of a stills or video camera, sitting in front of a computer editing photos or videos, producing websites and managing content and social media accounts for organisations or individuals, it’s a very strange feeling to now say “I’m retired".

Despite no longer taking on commercial paid work, it’s virtually impossible to suddenly stop what you’ve been doing for the best part of your working life so, for the past few years I’ve been taking on work on a ‘pro-bono’ basis for church, charity or voluntary organisations. I hope that my experience, skills and equipment can now be put to good use by those who perhaps, don’t have the budget or funding to produce what they want or need for their media requirements.

Ride of the Valkyries - Muted!

Facebook error message
I’ve mentioned several times in this and other blog posts about the need to be careful regarding the use of copyrighted music, photos or video in anything posted on Youtube, Facebook or the Internet in general, I now check and double check anything I use and only buy resources from reputable sites that include rights to use……

Back in June 2020, I posted a compilation video of narrowboat Wye Invader Two, 2015 - 2020 on the Wye Invader Two Facebook page, and I used 32 seconds from “Die Walküre, Act 3: Ride of the Valkyries” during one dramatic scene of the narrowboat entering Sharpness docks (sideways!), I bought the rights to use this and have the receipt (somewhere!).

Come forward to May 2023, I had a Facebook notification that Warner Music Group Rights Management had ‘muted’ 32 seconds of my video because “it may contain 32 seconds of music they own”, looking into it further they muted just the 32 seconds of ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ in 2 territories only - Russia & Belarus.

I wonder what Warner Music Group Rights Management would say if the Ukrainians attached speakers to a fleet of helicopters and charged towards the Russian lines playing ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ at full volume, would they try and mute that? (Apocalypse Now, 1979)
